Cheryl Kandel was born in Santa Monica, CA, and grew up in the San Fernando Valley (suburban Los Angeles). She graduated Cal State Northridge with a BA in illustration. Besides embroidery design and digitizing, Cheryl also does painting, photography and pottery.
A love for the outdoors and a spirit of adventure inspires Cheryl to document the beautiful and interesting places she has visited throughout her adult life: Alaska, Hawaii, the Yucatan in Mexico, the California desert, the American Southwest and Argentina. She has also photographed several friends' weddings, in a photo-journalistic style.
In 2003, Cheryl and her husband John Bruck relocated to the California desert, right next to Joshua Tree National Park, one of their favorite places. With it's scenic vistas, clear skies and starry nights, the desert has captivated and inspired them.
